ALS bedriver, utöver verksamheten inom rutinanalyser, även forskning inom fältet för metall- och grundämnesanalyser av kliniska matriser. Detta i nära samarbete med flera externa institutioner. Arbetet på ALS har resulterat i ett stort antal forskningsartiklar och konferenspapper, se nedan.
