In June 2013, the scope of the standard EN 71-3 which sets limits for the migration of elements in toys was extended. In addition to a number of new elements, EN 71-3:2013 now also includes hexavalent chromium (CrVI) and organotin compunds (OTC).

Instead of quantifying Cr(VI) and OTC directly, ALS Scandinavia recommends to first test for total chromium and tin. Should the total concentrations not exceed the limits set for Cr(VI) and OTC in the standard, no further testing is required.
