Uranium isotope ratio
ALS Scandinavia offers uranium isotope ratio of 234U, 235U, 236U and 238U. Analysis of uranium isotope ratios is useful in a variety of fields including:
- Enrichment control in the nuclear industry
- Pollution source tracing
- Exposure source tracing
Additionally, the nuclides U-238 and U-234 are listed in the EU Directive 2013&51/EURATOM. The purpose of this directive is protecting the general public by analysis of radioactive substances intended for human consumption. ALS offers uranium isotope analysis of water.
The analysis of uranium (U) isotopes can be carried out by two techniques, ICP-SFMS (high resolution ICP-MS) and MC-ICP-SFMS (multicollector ICP-SFMS). ALS Scandinavia has developed a matrix separation method that can be applied on prior to analysis for significantly improved measurement uncertainty.
We perform our isotope research in close co-operation with several external institutions, particularly the Divisions of Applied Geology and Chemistry at Luleå University of Technology. The research has resulted in a number of publications in the scientific literature. For more information please see isotope research.
