ALS now offers new method for microplastics which gives you both the number of plastic particles and the type of plastic. Microplastics are small pieces of plastic, between 1 µm and 5 mm (0.2 inch), which occur in the environment as a consequence of plastic pollution. Microplastics originates from a variety of products, from cosmetics to synthetic clothing to plastic bags and bottles.

ALS Scandinavia has since 2017 been able to provide a commercial method for identification of microplastics in water samples. Based on interest from the scientific community, as well as authorities, to identify polymer types, ALS Scandinavia has now developed a new method which uses µFTIR. This includes internationally renowned separation techniques for sludge, sediment and soil. ALS Scandinavia is also developing methods for biota, fish and mussels as well as food and beverages.
